China, my 7-year old lab, has taught me SO much about heart.  She’s an American Field Lab and is one of the most work-focused dogs I have ever known.  It’s not just about chasing and retrieving a toy – it’s all the time.  If we’re walking in the park, she’s only happy if she can carry something.  This girl is ALL about her job.China After Swimming for Hours

There are times she moves me to tears.  She has a genetic bone disorder that gives her a lot of pain at times.  Sometimes I literally have to help her stand up and massage her before she can walk somewhat normally.

Despite periods of hurting badly, she STILL only wants to work.  She will hobble to a toy to bring it back and will carry that toy as long we walk.  If she can’t “work” all the time, she gets really depressed.  As her condition worsens, I’ve been trying to find ways to let her feel she’s working that doesn’t involve lots of running.  And I’m finding ways to give her games that let her do her job without straining her joints and hips – but it’s not always easy.

When I start worrying, getting frustrated, or afraid (which is a given with a new business), I sometimes look at her and see her amazing heart that gives her the will to keep going.

She is a huge inspiration to me.  And I’m thankful for her and all of the amazing lessons she keeps trying to teach me about patience, focus, determination, and refusing to let anything keep you from doing what you love.

Side note:  I believe it’s important for people who purchase items from The Camping Dog to know about two things:  the products offered, and the people behind the business.  And now you know about some of the inspiration that caused me to start the online store adventure.

“find a sensible quality massive breed puppy food. science diet (IMHO) is food market fare and not up to my standards. a selected meat (chicken, lamb, etc) should be the primary ingredient. some folks swear by fish oil caplets or fish in the food to assist with a uninteresting coat. (my gsd’s are allergic) you can find organics at petsmart or at ’boutique’ pet stores. be ready to pay some money.”
