As the owner of two very active dogs who love to go, I make it a point to try to find off leash dog parks to explore both in my area and whenever I’m on the road with them. As more people are traveling with their dogs, and as more parts of the country are creating dog parks, some useful online resource sites have popped up that make it easier to find them. Some are much more helpful than others, but it’s clear that none of the sites I’ve found so far contain as much information as I think it would be nice to have.
Still, since many off leash dog parks have their own websites, some of the directories can be a nice place to start researching possible places to visit with your pup. Here are a couple I’ve found that are useful:
DogPark.com – You can search for dog parks anywhere in the U.S. and Canada. They include maps and information on the parks listed – although the amount of information on each park can vary quite a bit. The other nice thing about this site is that it’s easy to add parks you know about that may not current be included in their list. It’s a site in progress, and some of the information sections look like they’re still being developed. A nice site, though – I like it.
Howlers and Yowlers – These folks lists by state. Although they seem to have a very extensive list, they don’t necessarily contain much detail about each individual park. Still – it can be a nice place to start, since parks often have their own websites where you can find out more about the park’s amenities. They also have sections for shelters, health information, pet videos and more.
