As you know, labtug dogs love to play.  The odds are good that, no matter what kind of dog you have, they’re at their most happy when they’re playing with something – whether it’s chewing on something, chasing something, or trying to figure out something.  Like people, dogs love a good challenge.

Even the slowest dog loves to think.  And you can use that natural curiosity to train them and keep them entertained by giving them puzzles.  More dog puzzle games are being released in the market, but some of my absolute favorite puzzles are those developed by Nina Ottosson.  She has been developing puzzles for dogs for over 10 years and they are simply amazing.  In fact, Bark Magazine published an article on her work, how she got into it, and how much dogs love these puzzles.

The ones offered on The Camping Dog Supplies site are made of tough plastic and are a wonderful tool to help your dog develop their puzzle solving skills and get some tasty treats as rewards once they solve it.  If you have a dog that is still learning basic obedience skills, this is a great way to teach them to sit patiently, watch how you’re setting up the puzzle, and then have to figure out how to get at the goodies.

There are puzzles for various skill levels.  For a dog new to puzzles, the Dog Magic puzzle is a great place to start.  The dog must figure out how to remove a bone to get to the goodies. This is one of the simplest puzzles that is a great introduction to puzzle playing for your pup.

Dogs with more experience, or dogs who are just plain too smart for their own good would love a couple of my favorites: the Tornado and the Twister.  These games are great because you have a lot of control over the level of challenge – as your dog gets better at puzzle solving, you can easily up the ante on the game and make it more challenging for them.

To give you an idea how much dogs love these, check out this video of two pugs playing with the Twister.
