I have two hard-working dogs – one, in particular, is very hard on her toys. As much as I love her, I got tired of constantly replacing toys she’d chewed into tiny bits. It gets expensive! While there’s no such thing as an indestructible dog toy, there are some toys on the market now that get pretty close.
In my search for items that last for more than 30 seconds, I found a line of toys made by West Paw Design that are amazing.
I offer their products on The Camping Dog Supplies website for a number of reasons:
- Unique product designs that are incredibly durable
- Eco-friendly manufacturing
- Non-toxic and safe products that are recyclable
- U.S. company
Their toys last a l-o-n-g time, they’re unique, dogs love the texture, and they’re recyclable! What more can you ask of a toy? Here are a few of my favorites and why I love them so much.
The Hurley
This toy is so much fun. Dogs can chew on it, and you can use it as a retrieving toy. It’s a wonderful combination of a “chew-it-all-by-myself” toy that keeps your dog chomping on something other than your shoes, and yet you can use it as a throw toy. My border collie mix loves it because it bounces in interesting directions, and makes a great shake toy. My lab loves it because it floats! This is an amazing multi-purpose toy.
A friend of mine has a Westie that happily carries the Hurley around like a prize from room to room. He guards it, shakes it, throws it, and loves to fetch it. It’s one of his favorite toys.
It’s made from West Paw Design’s proprietary Zogoflex material which has the advantage of being recyclable, is non-toxic, and incredibly strong. This toy really stands up to wear.
The Bumi
I love this toy because it’s so unique. It looks delicate, but in this case, looks are deceiving!
It’s made from the same material as the Hurley and, like the Hurley, it’s a great multi-purpose toy. You can throw it, play tug with it, and your dog can chew on it. Part of what makes this toy fun is that when it’s pulled, it stretches out to twice the length, but immediately bounces back into the “S” shape.
This is a fun dog toss toy, too. If you flip it straight, it bounces in all sorts of interesting directions, which dogs adore. I’ve mentioned before that my border collie mix gets bored with a predictable toy. She wants toys that do interesting things! And this toy definitely fits the bill.
My lab loves this toy because it floats, but it’s also fun to carry and shake. Watching her prancing down the street ferociously shaking this toy with pride is fun to watch. People who see her often just stop and laugh about how much she loves it.
The Huck
If you’ve got a retrieving dog, the Huck is a great toy. It’s made from the material as the previous two toys, and both of my dogs love it when I pull out a Huck. It fits nicely into most ball launchers, which is really handy if you have a hard-running long distance retrieving dog. They’re heavier than a tennis ball and last forever.
These are fun because of their shape and their bounce. You often can’t quite predict which direction it will bounce in when it hits the ground, which makes it fun for dogs. The Zogoflex it’s made from gives it real bounce. My border collie loves to catch things in the air, and this toy bounces higher than any tennis ball I’ve ever seen. It’s fun to slam it on the ground and watch it bounce 30 feet in the air! And because it floats, my lab thinks it’s almost better than a piece of cheese.
To give you an idea about how dogs play with some of these toys, here’s a video clip of two dogs playing with a Bumi. It’ll give you a good idea of just how incredibly durable these toys are. Enjoy!

DaiZee still has the skunk, frog and Mallard matt we bought from you. She LOVES them! They have been dragged all over the place! If we look at her and say, “Mallard Matt”.. she runs off to find it and brings it back. I figure they will last another few months then we’ll need to buy more.
Thanks!
Denise
I’m glad you like ‘em!
